Yeah…that’s right. 28 friggin’ minutes. Well, I’ve been meaning to do an actual speed (?) run and tonight was the night. Now, first off, the 7×7 is a beast. It took 10 minutes just to get the centers, another 6 to get the middle 3 edges, but another 10 (!) for the final edges. I messed up a few times on that one. I’d say that wrecked my chances for a fast run, but let’s face it, it took forever. Ultimately though, I really wanted to have a figure, and 28 minutes+ it is. It was fun. I listened to some Satch, got over the fact that my son drooled on the cube and lost a green/yellow edge sticker. At least it turns a bit better than my V-Cube 6, but it was harder than normal to align the layers to turn at first. OK. Done. 7×7 record set. I’m happy.

New Cubing Record: 7×7 – 28:24.34

Posted in Blog, Downloads, MP3s, Music on March 14, 2012 by slatemanI haven’t recorded anything new in about a year, not since the boy was born, really. With my wife and kids out of town for the first time in 6 years, I decided to use my alone time to get back to what I love to do. Today’s recording is mostly out of desire to create something new, less about having an awesome riff to start with. So, it’s really just an excuse to record. What you have now is the first recording in 2012 and was fun to write. It’s certainly demo quality, I hear some fuck-ups that simply drive me nuts. However, it’s worth it in the end; I do hope you agree.

SFG Update: SFxT Avatars
Posted in Game Art, Games, Street Fighter, Web Design on March 13, 2012 by slatemanTwo images are presented below (Gouki & Poison), but I’ve tossed the rest of them up as my 90th gallery over at SFGalleries.net. I’m fairly certain that site is 10 years old this year, at least the structure of it is. Crazy…
Ys Celceta: Sea Of Trees
Posted in Blog, DoDon Pachi, Games, Skyrim, Street Fighter, Ys with tags PSVita on March 11, 2012 by slatemanGames: Too Much Shit To Play!!!
Posted in Blog, DoDon Pachi, Games, Skyrim, Street Fighter with tags PSVita on March 11, 2012 by slatemanThere are worse problems to have, I realize. Here’s what I’m looking at though…
First off, I’ve got DDP:DFK going on…LOVE DDP but that’ll be around for a long time. Then I have Skyrim and I’ll echo my DDP comments for this one. My Vita has started getting some love, but more at home than on the go. Then, I have SFxT from GF, which is something I’d really like to own. This is coupled with a bunch of PSN games I want to finish (Rochard, Bloodrayne: Betrayal, Trine and the first Sly Cooper which was free) and Journey on the PSN too! Oh, and I never finished off Outland on the 360. There are plenty of other PSN ones too, actually. RE4 and Hard Corps: Uprising need my love. And we should not forget the impending release of Borderlands 2 (might be a purchase), Darksiders II, RE6, and the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD reboot. Oh, and for co-op games, I’m looking forward to trying out Binary Domain, Raccoon City and I’m psyched about Aliens: Colonial Marines, but I can wait till Mat gets his stuff sorted out first. It’s going to be a good year, I think…if I can manage to get all these games in!
SFxT: Thoughts
Posted in Games, Reviews, Street Fighter on March 11, 2012 by slatemanI’m quite enjoying the arcade nature of this game. It’s dumbed down, ala the Marvel versus games, and has all the flash of that series as well. However, it’s a bit more true to the SF world and I love it. The cross combos are fun and spectacular to watch, the roster is huge and rather diverse, and there are plenty of modes to tinker with. It’s taken all the good from the SF4 games and carried it over. The downside is that a lot of it looks familiar.
We should point out that Poison is exactly as I envisioned her to be. Over the top and ridiculous. The fact that the game has a story at all is kinda cool, and the rival battles are somewhat meaningful and fun. While I got this from GameFly, I’ll be sad to send it back. But, with all the DLC planned, a GOTY version would be welcome. I’m still waiting on UMVC3 for that very reason. So glad I didn’t take the plunge for the initial release.
New Cubing Record – UPDATED: Pyraminx – 13.80
Posted in Blog, Cubing, Cubing Records on March 7, 2012 by slatemanI think I’ll dissolve my old Cubelog and post everything here. After my new purchase a few weeks ago (3x3x2, Pyraminx, Skewb), I realized I would never go for speed on most. However, the Pyraminx is not a difficult puzzle and so I did decide to time myself. Today’s record of 13.80 seconds is not bad. With only three algorithms, really (I’d actually say two) it’s not hard to go for speed. A little luck goes a long way! Cube Records posted here.
Street Figher X Tekken Shipping!
Posted in Blog, Games, Street Fighter on March 6, 2012 by slatemanI started playing Street Fighter way back in the late ’80s with the original SF. I remember the day I first saw SFII. I’ve followed the series ever since, writing FAQs and running SFGalleries among other fanatical things (no cosplay, fortunately). So, today GameFly shipped me SFXT. I’m pretty stoked. Hopefully I’ll be playing it in a few short days! Oh Yeah!!!
Ys: The Ultimate Utopia – Launched (sorta…)
Posted in Blog, Games, Web Design, Ys on March 4, 2012 by slatemanOK, many many years ago I started working on (yet!) another website covering the Ys series of games. It’s something I did in my spare time, much like my previous 100 sites. Sadly though, I never really had time to complete it. There it sat on my hard drive, year after year, with only incremental updates when I felt inspiration. The main reason for holding off on the launch was that I never covered Ys and Ys II, which are the main reasons I know of the series.
However, seeing as how I did put so much effort into what was completed, I feel it’s time to launch the essentially-already-dead project. It might give me some motivation to finish off some sections actually.
Feel free to browse the little I actually did complete by visiting Ys: The Ultimate Utopia in its glorious, incomplete state.
