New FAQs: Nex Machina & MVCI

Posted in Blog, Games, Guides, Street Fighter on June 28, 2017 by slateman

With summer vacation upon us I tossed together a pair of new FAQs. The Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite story demo is out and I figured I’d organize the skeleton of what may be a future FAQ. For now it’s just a complete move listing, but we’ll see if the game is good enough to expand it.

Second is a Nex Machina Secrets Guide. This details locations for every hidden exit, secret human, beacon and visitor and was a fun one to write. Just quick updates for today, but it’s been a long time since I worked on two FAQs in such a short span of time.

Resident Evil 7 Speedrun Guide

Posted in Blog, Games, Guides, Resident Evil on February 3, 2017 by slateman

After completing the excellent RE7, I decided a speedrun was in order. And in order to successfully complete one, I need a step-by-step guide. However, no text one exists yet! Why not make one? So, here it is. My 12.5 hour initial run was followed up by a 3-hour race which is fully detailed below. It’s a niche thing, but for trophy/achievement hunters, this will likely be useful.

Diamond Skewb Tutorial + Jaws DEATH

Posted in Best / Worst, Blog, Cubing, Guides, Personal, Video on July 8, 2016 by slateman

A pair of recently-uploaded YouTube videos follow. The first is the long-gestating tutorial for the Diamond Skewb. I tried to make this video twice and both times the puzzle exploded on me. That just let pieces everywhere and no inspiration to fix/record a movie. So, I finally got around to it. This is an update to my Skewb & Skewb Diamond Algorithms post from last year.

The second video is just stupidity. This is from when I went to Universal Studios Hollywood in 2003. Mat and I were on the Jaws exhibit and as he rose from the depths, I got my camera right on in there and then…DEATH. Absurd. Don’t watch this, it’s a waste of your life.

Street Fighter V FAQs

Posted in Blog, Games, Guides, Street Fighter on February 20, 2016 by slateman

sf5-logo_bigWith the game out a few days and my general dreadful skill level, I’ve resorted to writing guides. Hey, you go with your strengths, right? Anyways, I’ve tossed two up quickly, one on a full move list and the other on unlockables, just like I did back on SFIV and SSFIV. I fully intend on keeping up on these, especially considering the incomplete state the game shipped in. Despite the online grumblings, I quite like the game. So…here we are!

Hope someone enjoys these and finds them useful!

Vampire Savior: System Guide / FAQ

Posted in Blog, Games, Guides with tags , on December 24, 2012 by slateman

OK, I’m done. This is the longest I’ve ever labored on a guide in my 12+ years of writing FAQs. It all started about a month ago when I began researching and testing out my old games to see what precisely the difference between Vampire Savior, Vampire Savior 2 and Vampire Hunter 2 was. I was updating SFGalleries to include the Vampire/Darkstalkers games and realized I was a little confused. In looking through guides and FAQs, I could not find a very clear explanation about specifically what the difference was! Adding to the confusion was the unique history of all the game’s ports. As you’ll read (if you have interest), the release history goes as follows (Japanese releases unless underlined)

  • Vampire Savior (Arcade)
  • Vampire Hunter 2 (Arcade)
  • Vampire Savior 2 (Arcade)
  • Vampire Savior (Saturn)
  • Vampire Savior: EX Edition (PS1)
  • Darkstalkers 3 (PS1)
  • Vampire Chronicle: For Matching Service (DC)
  • Vampire Chronicle: The Chaos Tower (PSP)
  • Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower (PSP)
  • Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection (PS2)
  • Vampire Resurrection (PS3/X360)
  • Darkstalkers Resurrection (PS3/X360)

Now, the last two aren’t out yet, but I fully intend to cover them when they arrive in March. Until then, enjoy the vast, sprawling Systems Guide. It should answer any question that exists in regards to that the differences are and which system port is the best. It was a fun guide to write and, as I mention in there, the worst part was having to wait to finish/publish it. Enjoy!!!

THPSHD: FAQ Posted

Posted in Blog, Borderlands, Games, Guides, Resident Evil, Tony Hawk Series with tags , on September 1, 2012 by slateman

The days of THPS are long gone, but with the release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, I have to admit an excitement about the Hawk series not felt for the better part of a decade. Now, let’s not be hasty here, this isn’t pee-your-pants excitement like I’m feeling for Borderlands 2 and Resident Evil 6. Just sayin’. Anyways, I got a review copy of the game for both the PS3 and the Xbox360 and have gone through it mostly with the former. Of course, given my history with the game, I had to write a guide for it! Thus, we have my new THPSHD FAQ. I love writing guides so this was fun. Kinda looking forward to the THPS3 DLC.

DDP:DFK FAQ Posted

Posted in Blog, DoDon Pachi, Games, Guides with tags on July 14, 2012 by slateman

My first new FAQ in over 2 years, I really wanted to get this to a completed state before I got interrupted and lost my passion. So, while it’s still missing some things (i.e. I have to buy Black Label!) I’m pretty proud of what I’ve done. I look forward to finishing this, but for now, check out 1.0 of my DoDonPachi: Daifukkatsu FAQ! :D

I LOVE DFK! Novice HS (2-5!), FAQ

Posted in Best / Worst, Blog, DoDon Pachi, Games, Guides, High Scores/Accomplishments with tags on July 13, 2012 by slateman

Yes, the ONLY benefit of the PS3 dying was my newfound passion for DDP! Only Street Fighter rivals my love for DDP (like what I did there? And, for the record, SF wins). In any event, I played Novice Mode on DFK tonight and got to 2-5! Of course, I’ve never come close to anything like this before…like…not even in the same district. Novice mode, I get it…but I don’t care. It was friggin’ fun! So, here’s my new high score. That’s almost 20 billion and it was so awesome.

OK, over the past few days, my ‘passion’ has been a bit of an obsession. That’s good! All of my gaming FAQs have been born of this passion, as have all of my sites. Of course, I haven’t the time to dedicate to them like I used to, but this is DDP after all. Next up will be SDOJ in another 3-4 years. In any event, as I pack up to go to camp for a few, I figured I’d post the incomplete DDP:DFK FAQ I’ve been writing. It’s a hefty document, really, and while there’s a lot still left to do, in reviewing it, I’ve done a hell of a lot! Remember, it’s not done and there are a lot of holes. But I want it online in some capacity before going away and abandoning my beloved DDP! It’s been a good few days! It may not be healthy, but I love it when this happens. It’s been two years since my last FAQ and I did four in the course of three months then. OK…more soon!!!

Windmill Cube Tutorials!

Posted in Blog, Cubing, Guides, Video on June 6, 2012 by slateman

OK, we’ve established I’m a cubing geek. With that out of the way, I decided to make a tutorial on how to solve the Windmill Cube. I’m rather fond of this puzzle; it’s fun and looks pretty cool. However, I thought I could do a better job at a tutorial on how to solve the thing, so I decided to make one. It’s not my first video-editing project, of course, but it’s my first cubing video. So…I’ll post it here, though I can’t see anyone deciding to check it out unless you had a need…which you don’t. Who cares? I had fun making it!

RiDo’s Hunting Story

Posted in Blog, Cubing, Guides on May 28, 2012 by slateman

I’ve tinkered with F2L for quite some time and I’ve never really felt comfortable with it. While I realize it will actually slow me down at first, I think that becomes discouraging. Watching others do it however, makes me feel like I’m really missing out. Yesterday I came across RiDo’s Hunting Story and was impressed. Perhaps this can help me remember it all? For what it’s worth, I’m making a link for myself to remember. I really have to get on this…F2L would just rock!
